A Straight Successful Surface Piercing

Prologue:

On holiday in Canada last summer I saw a woman with two vertical nape piercings and thought they looked really cool. I already had a few myself but was looking to have something new and a bit different. When I told my friends they all said I was crazy and that I wouldn’t do it, then the idea kind of fizzled out.

Sternum Microdermal

I told myself I could only get a piercing after I found a new job. Well, I started my new job last week and got my new piercing on Saturday.

I kept seeing microdermals pop up on ModBlog and thought they looked nice and would be ideal for a concealable (non-facial) piercing. I read up on them and watched some videos of the placement procedure.

I was surprised how little info I could find about microdermals aside from site. This is pretty much the place for pictures and stories. It also worried me because I was concerned about getting stories from people with lots of experience with piercings. I have tattoos but this was my first piercing. I admit, I was thinking about how much a dermal punch would hurt vs a needle piercing. I think after the piercing I ended up rating the pain as a 4 of 10.

A Story of Love and Loss

So about a year ago I decided to get a sternum surface piercing.  I did all the research and felt I was well prepared to undertake this type of piercing.  The piercer felt that tygon would be the best option, and I had read many positive things about that material.  I decided that instead of the more standard up and down I wanted side to side, I liked the look of it better.  The piercing went fine and although quite sore it looked lovely.

It was a long week ahead, as it was quite painful and it was not easy sleeping.  Thankfully I got through the week without ripping it out (either on accident or out of sheer frustration).  Outside of the pain, I loved my new addition.  I got lots of comments on it, since it’s not as common as some piercings. And I would make a point of wearing low cut tops to highlight it.  All in all things were going great. Read the rest of this entry »

Take two

6 years ago I had my nape pierced buy a nice enough, but inexperienced (at least in the way of surface piercing) artist. It was nothing but trouble from the very start. I remember that it didnt hurt as bad as I had expected it to, which thrilled me and I fell in love with it right away. But there were a lot of problems. To start off with, I was unhappy with the fact that the posts of the barbell hung down slightly giving my neck a “sad face”. The piercer reassured me that would be fixed once the piercing healed and he could put in a smaller bar though, so I let it go.   Read the rest of this entry »

I love my bridge

I have always found the bridge to be a beautiful piercing that can really bring out other facial piercings.

So I decided I wanted one, and talked to my best friend, who is a piercing apprentice, and he has done most of my other facial piercings so I can go in his portfolio & I have never had to pay a dime for when he does my piercings. I trust him enough to pierce and I have never had him give me a bad or crooked piercing.

my favourite piercing

I was in bed one night considering getting a surface piercing on my forearm when i suddenly decided to get the nape of my neck done instead. I I’ve seen it on a few random people before, but no one I know has it and i’ve always thought it looked pretty awesome. A forearm surface piercing would be more visible, and may have caused me problems with dress codes at work etc, but with a nape piercing, I could easily hide it by wearing my hair down. Over the next few days I decided i really really wanted a bar in my neck.

The little Micro dermal that could

This is the story of my poor wrist micro dermal that had a very rough start but luckily is still a permanent placement on my body.
I discovered micro dermals when my first piercer had one on his arm. I didn’t fully understand the concept until I adventured on to the website and then on to industrial steels website. By that time I had acquired a labret, a nose stud and 4 ear piercing and was dying for something new that was more unusual then the items I had. Thought was going to be super easy to heal and I wouldn’t half to care as much about it as a surface piercing, I was very wrong.   Read the rest of this entry »

My new surface bar piercing

Well, about six months ago, I decided that I would like to go one step further from my stretched ears and my cartilage piercings to something a big more extreme, well for me anyway. I decided I wanted a surface piercing somewhere. After months of asking my parents for one, they continued to say no, so I decided what’s the harm if they can’t see it? So I did extensive research before hand. I heard that they grow out after a period of time, so I took this into very careful consideration. I also heard that if not looked after properly, they can reject and literally pop out of your skin, I also took this into major consideration. Read the rest of this entry »

My Surface Tragus

I had been wanting to get this piercing for a very long time now – ever since I first saw pictures on this website – I was just waiting for the right time. I knew that I would get it at one point but I wanted to make sure that I got it done by the right person. I’ve heard of people having bad experiences with their surface tragus’ and I didn’t want to have to go through all that just for a piercing. I wanted to go to Epidart (another tattoo and piercing place in Moncton) but that didn’t work out for various reasons and I’m not sure that they do surface piercings.

For The Love Of The Pain

So a few month ago I wrote a little tidbit about a set of rib surface bars my friend did on me.  They ended up in his portfolio and have done extremely well in getting him some more experience, I mean everyone has to start somewhere right. I was very happy to have been  his pincushion. Haha.

Anyways, this experience is a bit of an extension on that, we ended up putting two more surface piercings into my ribs, but in a slightly different area. As I said a four step “ladder” on either side of my ribcage would have looked a bit wonky, specially with my rather large tattoos, so we  placed these ones a bit upwards  and more towards the ribs under my breasts.
